Lunch run

4.4, 27:16

Not too easy, but not too tough. Felt good, still sluggish. Hoping to get out more soon. I did get out a second time last week (another 5) but my mileage is still very low right now.

Have I become a weekly runner?

5.2, ~39:00
Nice lunchtime run, nice conversation. Felt good. I went out wthout a
watch, looking for 7:30's and averaged just under that. I was well
rested, but sluggish from the infrequency of my runs lately.
Because I've been SO busy at home, at work, and with all the various
family activities lately (and frankly I don't see that changing..) I've
been forced to maintain a new perspective on my running "career". I've
been running about once per week for a month or so, and I think I can
get it back up to 3-4 times per week, but more often I'm encountering
times that I just can't run when I'd otherwise planned to. My new
perspective needs to be one that doesn't make me stressed out when these
schedule changes happen. I need to be OK with once a week, if that's
all I can do. Why unravel myself over one or two missed runs? In the
(running and otherwise) long run, it really won't matter. I'll be in
good shape (mentally!) as long as I can remember that.

(not so) easy 5

5M, 36:40
Did an easy (at least it was supposed to be) 5 in the beautiful weather. I was well rested and things went very well until the turnaround. I was just beat on the way back, but forged ahead anyhow. I was doing three steps to every breathing cycle instead of my usual easy-run 4 steps/cycle. I was whooped by the end, but it felt good. It gets hard to judge pace when you've been off for a few weeks, but it should come back soon.

I'm back! (really!!)

~4 mi, 32:00

After a long hiatus following a great 10 miler on April 3 (let's ignore the fact that I neglected my blog for 3 weeks before that...) I'm back out again. The 10 miler was very windy, but I managed a 70:24, which was well below my predicted 75:00. :) I meant to take a few days off (I was VERY sore) but life took over and it turned into 2 weeks! I did 4 this morning and it felt like 2 months off... Today's run felt tough, but it was great to be back on track.

Thanks for the comments while I was gone, I promise not to go AWOL again. ;)

Back out strong

5.4 M, ~40:00
Well, I was basically out for a week with work and family commitments, but I fianlly got back out today, and wow was I rested! I actually did a 6:40 pace for thh fourth mile. It took me a little bit to loosen up and get in teh groove, but I did without too much trouble. The route was actually a bit hilly, but on the uphills I really felt strong. It was almost like somebody was pushing me up the hills because I got a mini-adrenaline burst each time a attacked a new hill. A very nice run. I'm back in the groove with one hard week, one medium, and one easy/taper for the 10M on April 3.

Race Statistics blog

I noticed this blog recently that is a neat combination of things that geeky runners like me think are neat! Surely I'm not the only one...
Race Statistics - Marathons & Other Running Races

Silly or slick?

Where the hell are you, anyways?

Well, I'm here. Just busy, as we all get from time to time (don't we?). I've been doing a lot of housepainting, fixing computers, and working on other people's blogs. The bad news is that I only ran 6 miles last week (good speedwork, though) and didn't get my long run in this weekend. The good news is that I had a good 3 mile tempo run yesterday (~20:00) that felt easy after being so rested! The other good news is that I got my (used to be) old and slow (450MHz PIII) Win98 PC fully switched over to SuSE Linux 9.1 and it kicks ass. I actually had Mandrake 10 on that computer before, but got tired of the "bloat that is mandrake" (not so bad on fast PC's but painful on older boxes). Granted, SuSE's no racehorse, but it beats the crap out of Win98 and the other "full-featured" linux distro's I've tried. The best part is that I've rid myself of Microsoft (at home, at least).
Schedule is tight today, hope to get in a longer run later this week. Stay tuned...

Rest day...

.. if you can call it that. I was going to do an easy 4 or 5 today for a few extra miles this week, but life as a homeowner took its usual course! Another rest day never hurts. I feel fresh going into this week. I'll run early tomorrow to beat the incoming weather.

Long, but shortened

7.2 M, 63:00
I went out for a long run early this morning, intending for 10 - 12, but I got a late start. Scheduling difficulties limited my time, but I still got out for over an hour. I was pacing it for a 10+, so I might have done more in the time I had if I knew it would be only an hour. Anyhow, it was a cold, but good run. I took a new route that has a couple tough hills. As promised, I'm including hills in my runs, even long runs. After a long day of errands and house painting, I'm beat.
